Why Climb Mountain for Peace and Why Mt. Everest?!
Throughout the history of humankind and the various cultures and religions across the world, mountains have always held a special place in the hearts and souls of people. Mountains are seen as important, spiritual places in which gods and goddesses are supposed to reside - and for centuries they have been destinations where people go to become inspired and to feel closer to God. It was on top of a mountain in Ladakh, India that Lance Trumbull - The Everest Peace Project founder became inspired to create The Everest Peace Project and to organize these multi-faith Peace Climbs. Bringing together an international, multi-cultural team to climb mountains across the world, including Mt. Everest - the tallest mountain in the world - and in itself a symbol of strength, courage and spirit has always seemed like a wonderful way to promote peace. I think the message is clear: that in an atmosphere of peace - cultural, religious and political barriers can be surmounted; and through friendship and teamwork even the tallest mountain in the world can be climbed.
