Heal the Rift

By admin | July 21, 2008

Hi Everyone,

This weekend I had a wonderful time in New York. I had the honor and pleasure of speaking at the first annual Heal the Rift gathering in New York. HTR 2008 was in Washington Square Park in downtown New York. And during the heat of summer we had an incredible gathering of music and speakers.

Throughout the day, thousands of people heard inspriational music and speakers talk about healing, peace, and reconcilliation. I spoke for approximately 15 minutes about the important of getting involved in our own lives and the communites that we all share; I also of course, spoke about our history-making climb and the film - Everest: A Climb for Peace. It was a wonderful gathering that I believed truly inspired and educated people of all walks of life that were present. The event was also heavily attended by the press with both local and international media including the VOA, the New York Daily News, and I believe the BBC…? Fun was had by all!

Here is an overview of Heal the Rift and their Web site: www.healtherift.org

“Heal the Rift was an idea thought up by four college students, two from the West and two from the Muslim World. These four friends refused to accept the “status quo” of increasing polarization between the West and the Islamic world. Through their event, HTR 2008, they will accomplish the simple, long-awaited task of finally bringing their two civilizations together in a public forum of truth, respect, and reconciliation.”

Erik Mongrain and Bobby Standridge

By admin | July 6, 2008

Hi Everyone,

I thought I should include another reason why people should see our film - Everest: A Climb for Peace: to hear the incredible guitar work of guitar virtuoso Erik Mongrain; several of his songs are featured on our documentary. To learn more about Erik Mongrain, please go to his site: www.erikmongrain.com - to download his songs or buy his CD, please click here . Erik will hopefully have a new CD of music in the coming months.

I first learned about Bobby Standridge by seeing his incredible animation of the song YYZ by Rush that he did several years ago; being a drummer I was amazed how the animation was perfect to the actual drumming - check it out here. I emailed Bobby and asked him if he would do Everest animation sequences for our film. He enthusiastically said yes. I was stoked - and I was even happier when I got some incredible fly over high resolution images of Mt. Everest in Tibet. Armed with these and an incredible gift for animation - Bobby put together the best Everest animation sequences out there. Recently Bobby has done an official video for Rush and some great work for ESPN. He was recently featured in Rolling Stone magazine; but my biased opinion says his best work was on our film! To learn more about Bobby, please check out some of his animations: www.bobbysbrane.com/animation-fun/animation-fun.html

Thanks again guys!

Distribution and Vegas

By admin | July 5, 2008

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I have not written in a while…A couple of weeks ago I went to the Home Media Expo in Vegas (damn it was hot!) for we are currently looking for a new distributor / sales rep. (a long painful story). I told my wife before I went that she should be happy that she has a husband that does not drink, smoke, or gamble and that the thing that I was most looking forward to was staying at a hotel that had a big movie theatre inside!

Being an independent filmmaker and getting a good distributor that believes in your film, will work hard for you, and that will not take advantage of you is a process that is about as fun as going to the dentist for a root canal…promises, long complicated contracts, lawyers, facts and figures that never seem to add up in your favor, revised contracts, more lawyers…are we having fun yet?!

Anyway, I met a few interesting companies and we shall see how the next couple of weeks plays out.

The best part of the trip was the journey home - the taxi guy was this really interesting man from Ethiopia - we had a wonderful talk about politics, hope, Barack Obama, and peace. I told him to make sure to have all of his friends vote Democrat in November and left him with a free copy of my film. At line in the Southwest airlines cue it got even better - I saw Erik Weihenmayer - the blind Everest climber. I had met him before a few years ago at the SF premiere of his film Farther than the Eye Can See and was happy to run into him once again. When you meet him you cannot help but get a warm feeling - he seems like an honest, kind and gentle soul; we had a nice talk and I gave him a couple of copies of my film. Although he is blind - he had sight until he was 12; I am not sure how he experiences films, but hopefully he appreciates the dialogue and the music and that the sound brings up descriptive images in his mind; hopefully the rest of his family will enjoy it as well. Erik does not use a cane, he has one of the sweetest German Sherpards I have seen as a service dog.

Anyway, back to the distribution - we have a great film with several companies now interested and I promise that at some point soon we will have our film on TV and DVD worldwide - that is my mission and I am determined to make it happen! Stay tuned….

New EPP Video Gallery

By admin | June 16, 2008

Hi Everyone,

I am proud to say that I created (through the help of an amazing program) a really cool new video gallery. It took a while to figure it all out: but I am most happy because it came out looking so nice; I was even able to match up all the colors with the Web site so visually it fits right in. The most time consuming part was the touch up work with the videos, and the encoding into flash videos took the longest. I am hoping to include more video soon. I also included a nice little EPP promo in front of each video (some might find this annoying…but it is good for branding.) Thanks to Bobby Standridge the animation hero.

And so without further delay…check it out!

Keynote speech and screening of Everest: A Climb for Peace in SF Bay Area

By admin | May 27, 2008

Last saturday night on May 24th, I had the please of giving the keynote speech for the Center of Spiritual Enlightenment 6th Annual Spring Benefit Gala. It was held at the Triton Museum in Santa Clara, California. It was a formal affair and so this is one of the few times that anyone will ever see me dressed in a suit! (Below a rare picture!). It was a wondeful event and a wonderful evening (which also happened to be my 40th birthday…yes, I am officially now old!). There were about 150 people at the event and it was a lively and fun affair. The talk was about Everest, Peace, and following your true path in life. I was very happy to hear that people were inspired and truly enjoyed my speech.

The following day - Sunday the 25th - we had a special screening of my film - Everest: A Climb for Peace at CSE headquarters in San Jose. It was an excellent event - this time, I could dress casually and so no suite or tie :)

There were about 100 people in attendance and the film was very well received. We sold out of DVDs quite quickly and I was mad at myself for not bringing more (next time…).

After the screening of the film, we had a very long question and answer period - at least 30 minutes - and it would have gone longer (people had lots of questions - which is always nice!), but the powers that be stopped it because it appeared that it could have gone all night and I think the people who helped set up the weekend were tired by this time (it was a long weekend)

After the event a long line of enthusiastic people, most who also saw me speak the night before lined up just to have a personal chat with me, have me sign posters or DVDs - and in a couple of cases - give me hugs! It was a moving experience, one in which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Lance Trumbull - Book a lecture / screening

By admin | May 22, 2008

Hi Everyone,

One of the things that gives me great excitement and fulfillment - and that I have a passion for is to speak in front of large groups and to give special screenings for my history-making and award winning Everest film - Everest: A Climb for Peace. I have had the pleasure of doing many speakings and screenings over the last many months and I am certaintly on planning to continue to do so.

One main plan that I have for this coming fall and winter is to do a college lecture and screening tour across the United States. I now have a great person who is helping me behind the screnes - his name is Lewis - he is an agent for GeoCinema (www.GeoCinema.com).

I put together the following 10 minute video (see below) to help get us in the door to various colleges - please check it out. I am also always looking to do other enagements and so if you would like me to speak at your work, school, or oganizations, please let me know.

Enjoy

EPP on the radio in SF Bay Area

By admin | May 19, 2008

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I have not written in so long…no excuse on my end.
Yesterday I had a radio interview with Diane Solomon of KKUP in Cupertino, California. The station describes itself as an “eclectic, non-commercial radio serving the South Bay, Santa Cruz, and Monterey Bay Areas since 1972.”It was a good interview that lasted about 30 minutes - which gave me plenty of time to take about the climb, the project, and the film. However, I am always amazed just how quickly time flies while you are doing a radio interview!

I called into the station from my home in Portland. It is always a bit strange doing a call in interview - for there is no one to bounce your talking points off of, no feedback or personal contact - you talk and then there is just silence and you wonder - am I still on the radio? It does not feel like a conversation but more like a speech - that you are not sure how long it should last…and to make it a bit more difficult this time was that I was getting some echo / delay on my end and so I would hear myself talk - which can be a bit hard to deal with at times….Still, Diane had some great questions and I had an opportunity to plug an event this coming weekend: I will be giving a keynote speech on Saturday May 24 for a peace organization in San Jose and then on the following day - Sunday the 25th, I will be giving a special screening of my film - Everest: A Climb for Peace.

To learn more, please click on the following link to download a flyer to the event: http://www.everestpeaceproject.org/EPP_movie_screening_v5.pdf - I hope to see some of you there!Lance

Tibetan Community Center Film Screening in Portland

By admin | April 28, 2008

Last Saturday we had a wonderful event - a charity screening in Portland, Oregon at the Tibetan Community Center. It was a well attended screening with a nice mixture of Tibetans, Nepalese, and Americans. Screening the film in a Tibetan place of worship was wonderful and hopefully our karma was enhanced more as we raised several hundred dollars for the education of my young Nepalese friend, Maya.

I met Maya while I was living in Kathmandu 6 years ago. The Everest Peace Project office was originally located in Thamel - a tourist and area in Kathmandu. I would see Maya almost everyday; she was a sweet, poor street kid who would always carry her brother on her back - she would often sell purses or beg for food from the tourists. We became friends and over the years, we have stayed in contact with Maya and her family and The Everest Peace Project did what we could to help her and her family with food and clothing. As Maya grew older and became a teenager, I became more worried about what she would grow into without a proper education and so last year we enrolled Maya into the Trishakti English Boarding School in Kathmandu - a very good school in the Kathmandu Valley. Maya recently finished near the top of her class and continues to excel in her education; we are very proud of her. I am in contact with Maya as she now emails me and will often instant message me with MSN messenger. My good friend Kiran, who lives in Nepal and who helped me find the school for Maya - also helps watch over her and makes sure that all money sent goes directly to her school and that Maya has books and clothing and is properly taken care of.

For those who want to donate to help further Maya’s education, please contact me direct (info@everestpeaceproject.org) - 100% of all donations specifically for Maya will go directly to her education.

Award, Review, and upcoming event

By admin | April 23, 2008

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday was a good day; I got confirmation that we won a Gold REMI award at the Houston WorldFest Film Festival. This is of course, nice - as it is always great to be appreciated and noticed for your hard work and so I am very happy about the award.

We also got a nice review from an adventure site called The Adventurist http://thehendricksreport.wordpress.com/ - a great relatively new adventure site which has excellent and well written articles - and along with www.Mounteverest.net should be added to as a great source of adventure news.   To see the review you can go here: http://thehendricksreport.wordpress.com/2008/04/22/everest-a-climb-for-peace-an-adventurist-film-review/.

Again, it is wonderful to be recognized not only by awards but by the words of critics and everyday viewers of the film.

Coming up next: I will be speaking and screening Everest: A Climb for Peace at the Tibetan Community Center here in Portland, Oregon this Saturday. It should be great to be around lots of smiling Tibetans and Sherpas. It will also be a charity event. To see the info flyer, please click here: http://www.everestpeaceproject.org/eppmovieevent-final.pdf
